Did I buy a knockoff Mystery of the High Hat?

Post by Mike H » Sun Nov 23, 2014 11:01 pm

Hey gang,

I recently snatched a Mystery Of The High Hat for a really low price on eBay. The seller insisted in the listing that it was an original Tenyo item and NOT a knockoff, but after receiving it I'm not sure...

There are absolutely no Tenyo markings or logos or anything on any of the pieces, and even the instructions are a copy (but the listing DID note that). Can someone who has a genuine Tenyo version confirm that there's no distinguishing marks on the high hat, the wand or the chips?

I should note that I don't have any reason not to trust this seller, I've purchased from him before and have had good success, and the price I paid for this was RIDICULOUSLY low (lower even than most of the knockoffs), so I can't complain too much.

I just need to know if I can be satisfied with this trick or if I need to keep searching for a genuine copy...

I can see no markings of any kind on my Tenyo MOTHH. And yes the hat is oval. To me it seems you have the genuine version.

LOL It may be, Simon, but that pic isn't mine it was the photo from the eBay listing ;)

Thanks for the info on the shape of the hat! That's exactly what I was hoping to see. Once again you guys offer super helpful information. Did I mention you're my favorite people on the internet?

there are a mighty fine bunch on here. I'm not able to get on as much as I'd like at the moment but hoping to remedy that asap. I cracked open the edit tools on my iPhone today, I don't normally instagramify my pics but it helped with the lighting. I just finished snazzing up my new bass with some custom vinyls I did on the laser. I think it's suitably snazzed :)

Looks pretty cool Simon! Reminds me of the time I once painted a guitar for someone, and even got paid for that!
The result was pretty psychedelic, unfortunately I didn't make a picture of it!

So, are you going to be a rockstar or not with your cool guitar? :)
