Unity Illusion by Tony Davies

This is one great trick which the Lord of Ribbon boxes (Rob Rand) will love for sure :)

I know it is based on an older trick which name escapes me for the moment. Different versions have been made throughout the years, the most beautifull and baffling version in my opinion being Richard Gerlitz' Family Ties

I think this would be a great project for people like ØyvindK, Rob, Simon ... to remake! It is self-working and a real mechanical marvel ... (I don't know how it works by the way :) ). Gentlemen, start your engines :D

I agree this is a great trick, thanks for posting about it. If I can figure it out, I may well try to recreate it.

Yes this is definitely a baffling trick with a very clever mechanism! I had the possibility to buy it, but I found 1600 $ too much, although it was a bargain for this item!

Yes this effect fascinates me for a long time... maybe with the help of Lego Technic parts it's possible to make my own version!

And I'm very curious if Oyvind will be able to find out how it works...

All back to the drawer table :)

Ooooo very nice effect, and I've figured it out. This actually wouldn't be too difficult to make! Thanks for posting!

I too have figured this out and would be pretty easy to make would take a little trial and error. Took me a while to see how it was done but one thing gave it away. ;)

Can't believe this sold for 1600 bucks that is insane.

Richard

Great minds think alike, I too asked myself why "that one thing" and it lead me to the solution. Brilliant idea and yes I too think it would be easy to make. $1600 sounds way too expensive and I've seen it selling for $275 on a few sites, that's a little more reasonable!

I was actually referring to Richard Gerlitz effect with the three blocks, that is a very rare piece and is worth 1600 $.

This variation of the effect, the Unity Illusion by Tony Davies, is indeed reasonable priced, it's about 250 €.

The Chinese characters on the boxes translate to "don't listen". Is that supposed to be some sort of clue?

Rob do you know if there is a video online of the Richard Gerlitz 3 box version? I'd love to see it!

This version works very differently than the Gerlitz version. I had to watch this one a few times, but have figured it out as well. It is much less complicated than the workings of the Gerlitz.

The Unity Illusion is nice, and very deceptive but I don't care for the designs on the blocks.

I think I still prefer the lintenkabinet for this type of trick.

No video of this effect unfortunately, Peter.

OK I'm the guy who couldn't resist buying Unity Illusion, as a ribbon trick lover :)

I was very surprised by the actually very simple looking 'mechanism'. It's actually not a real mechanism. Well of course it is, but not what I expected...

In first instance I was a bit embarrased that I spent so much money for such a low tech item.

Until I played with it.... It works fantastic! A real convincer!

Already made a video but have to rehearse it because it's filmed too close.

It's a joy to perform!

Still didn't manage to make this from Lego!

But thank you David for mentioning this trick! I had not seen it before!

I really like the look of the props. Is everything wood with brass accents where the ribbon comes out of the boxes?

Nice romantic presentation Rob!

Thank you Steve!

The props are of high quality ; the tray is beautiful with laquered wood. The tea boxes are made of thin wood. You really get value for your money.

The ornaments are made of very thin metal.

It all makes a very refined impression.

You could say that even the mechanism is refined :)

Great video performance Rob. The props look great, and I believe the wooden boxes may be made from bamboo wood. Very nice and I like all the brass accents!

Very nice video, Rob!
I have also figured out how this works (at least the general method), but your video shows that it might be a tiny bit different from what I initially thought.

Very nice presentation Rob :). 1 question Rob, does the prop using black art ? If no, I am completely puzzled.I am just guessing by watching at the 1st demo shared by David. Thanks.

Nicely done Rob! The quality of the blocks looks much nicer in your video than in the photo (zoom helps).

It's nice too see that Øyvind made his version of Unity Illusion called The Identical Twin Boxes Illusion :

https://youtu.be/HSGN8SFekYA

and I also made a Lego version called Lego Ribbon Miracle :

https://youtu.be/NmUv2GZgHWk

So, this is a very inspirational effect :)
