Emerson and West

Just wondering if there are any collectors of Emerson and West card packet tricks on the forum?
I have around 40 different effects.
I am trying to find (without any luck) Walt Maddison’s GEMS that was an Emerson and West release.
If anyone has this trick, what is the effect?
Also, if anyone has a extra copy they would like to sell, I’m really interested. Please send me a PM.

I have been an Emerson and West fan for a long time and do have several of their effects but nowhere near 40 of them.

Not familiar with GEMS.

Do you have the set of VHS tapes taught by Dan Harlan which each came with two of their card packet tricks? There were six sets total but number five was recalled due to some problem I believe with credit for a trick in the set belonging to someone else if I remember correctly.

Steve,

Sometime I need to compile a list of tricks I have and post them here. I believe I have a number of duplicates as well.
I do have all 6 Dan Harlan VHS tapes. I must have purchased tape 5 before the recall. :-)
GEMS is a tough one find. I’ve only seen it on the big auction site once and got out bid. :-(

Happy to hear that you have the entire set Kirk. I don’t know how far along number five was recalled but may be able to find out. See what I can do.

I have number five too but I got it after it was pulled. I put out an APB for one and eventually found it. :D

Card packet tricks are great and the Emerson and West stuff are important entries. Please let me know what duplicates you have and maybe we can work something out if you have any I need.

So, I was finally able to get my hands on this rare and wonderful Emerson & West packet trick call GEMs (by Walt Maddison)

The basic effect is this:
Count to show 4 cards each with a picture of a closed jewel box.
Turn the cards over and count the cards into a fan to show 4 different colored jewels.
Close the fan and recount the cards into a fan again and one of the jewels is missing.
Repeat to show the 2nd and 3rd jewel missing.
The Red jewel is placed face up on top of the other face down cards and then turned face down on the packet as well.
All 4 cards (jewel boxes) are now shown (front and back) to be empty.
Turn the packet over and count-spread/count the cards into a fan one last time to show all the jewels have magically returned.

I like so many of the E & W packet tricks but I believe I’ll place this one in my top 10.
It has a great story line and a lot of magic happens…very entertaining in my opinion.

I’ve attach images of the front and backs of the cards.

How did you finally find this?
Like to see it done on a video but none to be found.

Richard, I spotted it mixed together in a magic trick lot on eBay. This was only the second one I have ever seen in many years so I grabbed it up. It was in like new condition so I don’t believe it was ever used.
This effect contains a number of moves. If I can find the time the practice, I may do a video and post it on YouTube....we'll see.
