Dream Journal

Post by Richard W » Sun Jul 03, 2016 4:20 pm

A must see!

Seen this on Penguin Magic it looks so good I had to grab one while they still have it in stock they are flying off the shelf. Sure it can be easy to make but for $14.95 free shipping to here I wanted the real deal. Looks so good I will amuse myself with it for days. Go check this out.

I like Rick Lax presentation.
That is the way I will be doing it.
I downloaded the video you get when you buy it but have not watched it.
I want to wait till I have it in my had I don't want to really know yet how it is done but think I do anyway.
Only 9 left better go grab one before they are gone there was 28 yesterday. ;)

This is an optical illusion that has been around for a very long time. Interesting to see Penguin Magic package this as a magic trick and for Rick Lax to talk about it as if it's a new ground breaking effect?

Yes Richard, I love the presentation.
Elliot shared a thread about Tenyo science magic which we can see here:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1355&p=17957&hilit=buzz#p17955
one of the prop is the springs for this trick.

Like many magic tricks someone brings up some one else's age old effect and spin it as brand new and exclusive. See this many times with Tenyo stuff. I am age old too but never seen the spring illusion it looks great with the large long stretched out coils makes it very visable and fun to watch. Rick Lax gave it "this could only happen in a dream" spin which sold the effect to me.

It is very cool illusion and I like Rick's patter. It's also nice that he joins and un-joins the spring which isn't normally required when showing it just as an optical illusion!

Got Dream Journal glad I did.

The spiral coils are made of pretty strong spring steel wire that holds it shape really well. If I tried to make these with this strong of wire would be a real pain to get them uniform and look the same. These are nice and shinny so catches the eye when it appears to move. The effect is amazing in your hands as it is on the video.

Connecting the 2 coils so they look good with both ends tucked in so one end isn't sticking up has a learning curve. Sometimes it looks right the first try then when you think you have it figured out hook them together again to have one end not look exactly right but still works fine.

Gets lots of wows from those that see it done very convincing effect.
I think it is worth the small price as it is made strong to last.
I expected they would bend easy but I was wrong. ;)

Richard, I agree with you.
I ordered a set because it seems so totally different. (I am aware that similar coils were included with an early Tenyo mage set) The length of these coils is perfect. The illusion is visually stunning. I recommend this! At $15.00 (free shipping to me) the price for the effect is about as good as it gets these days.
and now, on with the show ...

I just bought one too. The free shipping to the UK was what swung it. last time I went to order from Penguin,it was for a deck of cards which were $7. The shipping was something like $14. I passed.
Looking forward to this, your reviews seem to good I had to go for it!
Now you see me...

Simon, et, al,.
I worked out hiding the left end of the coil behind the left hand, (after hooking the coils together) and after pulling/stretching the right side a few times, I let the entire coil "reveal" itself by continuing to the right and left sides of the entire coil. This looks impossible, as if the coil stretched out way beyond it's own physical limitations. The length of the coil makes this possible. In my opinion this is the perfect rendition of "Spiraling Out Of Control."

When I first saw the demo I thought: oh well, that's the basic illusion with the spirals. However the more I see it being performed, the more intrigued I am by the perfect illusion, so impossible looking  ! It's now on my 'buy it' list :) Thanks for sharing this Richard!

Pick it up David. It's the physical dimensions, and tenacity of the coils which make this version a "no brainer."

By watching again the demo, I am somehow hypnotized and going to get a set too :) I totally felt asleep until I realize that Penguin offered free shipping to my country. Now it's sold out and do you guys think it will be available again ? At the moment we still can preorder it. I should hear Richard at the early stage.:(

I took the plunge, as well. Ordered it on Friday and it shipped the same day. Looks like they have a pretty good stock of these at the moment.

Thanks for the info Bob. Due to technical issue, I cannot find my "billing country" , Indonesia was not existed in the list so I cannot proceed the transaction :( I have escalated the problem. They are clearly offering free shipping to Indonesia. Let`s see if I will get any luck.

I ordered it today, and I received today the shipping confirmation :) So it is in stock again :)

That's a shame Victor! Indonesia is an immense large country, how can they exclude it???

Penguin is great to deal with. I'll bet that they'll help you out if you contact them. Possibly an oversight(??).

Thanks for the support guys. I got feedback from Penguin. Indeed they are very supportive and I got fast feedback. The main reason is this :( :

"Thanks for your email about shipping to INDONESIA. We do not normally ship to your country as too many packages were "lost" or "stolen" and never made it to the customer. You can order at your own risk and we highly suggest FedEx as the shipper as they offer a place-to-place tracking number.

...etc...etc...."

They don`t want me to take the risk. I have to pay USD 36,61 just to deliver 2 spirals by FedEx. The US postal service is little bit cheaper than FedEx (USD 23,50). I think, I will skip it. I will find my destiny to find one set in the future ;) Thanks again for your support guys !

This item has been sold in joke shops and in magic sets for half a century.

It was included in Mysto Magic sets in the 1930s.

It's a great illusion, but it's old.

You could buy the Tenyo Science Magic Set on Ebay. It will cost you about the same but at least you get more tricks with it. :)
