Some of the terms I used go by many other names. Wraparound backgrounds are also called repeating backgrounds and looping backgrounds as well as other names. Infinity Mirrors also have various names.

There are others that use other effects and mechanisms. But this should be enough to get you thinking.

Does anyone have experience with these wooden puzzles ?

Have read that often parts break easily ...

Most of these types of puzzles are made with laser cut birch plywood. In general plywood is made from multiple layers of wood glued together which makes them relatively robust, and depending on how small the part is shouldn’t break too easily.
