Riddle me this

Post by SimonC » Sun Aug 02, 2015 8:16 pm

Hi guys, as I'm now on holiday, the shaken snow globe that is my working brain is starting to settle and I can relax a little more and more importantly spend more time on here.
So I'll start with a riddle as we've not had any games for a while.

I am an adhesive label with a picture of an orange soda on.

What am I?
Now you see me...

This is too darn hard for me I'm afraid, lack of knowledge of the English language I suppose, or at least that's what I'm saying to myself :geek: .

I'm American, and this thing is kicking me apart. I'll be honest, I have a whopping THREE that I know are sure shots out of TEN.

Once you figure out one of them, it'll start coming together. Planet Tenyo is so damn helpful for these riddles.

Simon is not speaking American English, Brett. That's why we have no idea what he is talking about. ;)

I've got three for sure as well. A couple of maybes but I am stumped on the rest.
Hopefully I'll have time over the weekend to crack some more of these...

Thanks for having a go guys, I'll put some hints up tomorrow. It's my 5th wedding anniversary today (I know she's mad) so I'll be leaving the phone at home so as not to haemorrhage brownie points during our meal ;)

I worked with the RAF for 10 years, you all do English 'funny' ;)

Except the guys from Wales. The rest of the non-Wales Brits were confused by their vernacular. But the Wales guys seemed to be he nicest.

I remember in Iraq when we had PAGES posted al over the clamshells of British slang so 'you guys would feel at home'. It was the dogs bollocks

we've got some great slang, and no one does insults quite like us Brits. we can turn any inanimate object into one.
You f*****g plank, you bloody turnip, you flippin' spoon etc

We all found British slang absolutely fascinating. We were sort of jealous that our insults kind of paled in comparison. I kept bugging the guys to teach me Cockney Rhyming Slang. To which I was told, 'F*** off, did you learn that from a Guy Ritcchie movie?'

Well, yes.

I was always very partial to, 'you bloody muppet!' And flipping people off as you guys do because Americans think you're doing a peace sign kinda funny. Little do they know...

And I know you left your phone at home, but congrats to you and the Missus for 5 years of marriage.

thanks mate, we got back a bit ago.
muppets a good one. spanner I use a lot.
here's a bit of cockney I use a lot,
"I ain't got a scooby doo" means "I don't know" (scooby doo - clue)
the mystic Ruby is 2 and a half now and he's always stealing things off me so I call him a tea-leaf a lot at the moment (tea-leaf - thief)

today's episode was brought to you by the letter "spanner" and the number "spoon"

Some clues...

1. Freddy's trick - Run through some famous freddy's and find one who's surname has another word for it.
2. Sad Billy - Start by thinking of some famous Billys
3. Thor's Workers - God of...?
4. Thinking Complete - Look up both words in a thesaurus
5. Care for a Copier - what machines copy?
6. Indolent' initial - This is quite cryptic, look up indolent in a thesaurus
7. Infinity's sixth - count the letters in the first word, how many times does each letter appear?
8. Pn - A word that begins with p and end in n has had something done to it
9. Attempt District - this is another thesaurus job
10. Wizard's Wheezer - think of s famous wizard and your halfway there

good luck :)
