Greetings from the north

Post by ØyvindK » Fri Jan 12, 2018 4:03 am

Hi all!
My name is Øyvind, and I'm a middle-aged (hurts to say it) Norwegian. My history in magic is very old, and unfortunately also very short. I've always been fascinated by magic, and as a teenager (nearly 30 years ago), I had a few small performances where I grew up (small countryside place), in addition to showing stuff to friends and family. It was nothing big or advanced, but I enjoyed it. Then life just came in the way, and a lot of time passed.

This brings us to present day, where my interest for magic has been rejuvenated, as I suddenly realized one day that I now have the opportunity to combine my hobby of 3D design and printing with magic. I looked around a bit online, and discovered Tenyo tricks, which is just the kind of things that I like. Tenyo obviously existed also when I was a teenager, but the internet did not, and I just didn't know about Tenyo. I've also discovered Kent Bergmann's site with 3D-printed tricks, and they are delightful!

I'm not good at sleight of hand (and becoming skilled takes more time and patience than I have), so primarily my attention will be on tricks that only requires modest skills in that area. Creating my own props (and tricks) will most likely be my main goal, and in many cases it might be to recreate Tenyo effects with my own twist/take (or no twist at all), time will show. I currently don't own any genuine Tenoy tricks, but I have ordered my very first (the Smart Guillotine), and I expect to receive it quite soon. Looking forward to play around with that!

My very first recreation of a Tenyo trick was finished yesterday, and I'll post some pictures of it shortly!

As a footnote, I have spent some time lurking in here the last couple of days, and this forum is quite clearly a very friendly place, and I hope to be able to contribute in here. I had the misfortune to post a question about recreating a Tenyo trick at another forum, only to be accused of theft (despite making it clear that I just wanted to create this for my own personal use), so I'll post my stuff here instead.

Hello Øyvind and welcome to the best and friendliest magic forum on the web! :D

Glad to have another craftsman on the forum. I’m sure you will quickly become acquainted with the other fine craftsmen/creators/inventors who are member here as well.
I too have ideas for tabletop illusions but I don’t possess the woodworking skills or the knowledge of CAD software to bring my ideas to life. I have built a few from stiff cardboard and styrene plastic but they look a bit rough to say the least.

I look forward to seeing your future 3D printed creations.

Kirk

I think David may have cheated, I just noticed that he also greeted other new members in their mother tongue... :-)
