Bill Taylor ASC - my profile
Hi I'm Bill Taylor. I do visual effects for movies as a profession and magic for fun. I'm probably best known as a photographer of magic-related books: Mike Caveney's "Wonders" , Steve Forte's "Casino Game Protection", etecetera, I'm also a magic creator, mostly for Owen Magic. My best-known stage illusion is probably "Trash Can Monte". I'm the perfect amateur; since I don't have to make a living at it I can play wherever I like.

Welcome Bill!
May I ask what movies did you do visual effects for? I'm a real movie addict so perhaps there are a few that I know

One of the movies that Bill worked on was the original Blade Runner. His company's name was Illusion Arts.

O M G ... that's actually my favourite Sci-Fi-movie of all time (imho better than the sequal ...) I watch it AT LEAST twice a year I do know 'Illusion Arts'.Richard Kaufman wrote:One of the movies that Bill worked on was the original Blade Runner. His company's name was Illusion Arts.

My Bladerunner credit in IMDB is a bit misleading. My company (and others) worked on the Ridley Scott "Final Cut", not on the original movie. Aware of what digital technology could do, not to mention some more time that was in very short supply in the original movie's race to the finish line, Ridley went through the movie and fixed stuff that had been bothering him since the original release: some matte artifacts on some flyers, adjustments to some matte painting shots, a stunt fall through some glass that did not look enough like the actress, and so on.
The only shot we originated rather than fiddled with was the final shot of the bird flying into the sky. The original background was a warehouse on the Pinewood studios back lot. Our artists Kelvin McIlwain and Syd Dutton (my business partner in Illusion Arts) created a new background that was derived from the Bladerunner buildings designs. We digitally pulled the bird off the original background and added it to the new one.
As Mel Brooks said, 'It's good to be the king!"

Cool! Nice peek behind the curtain I worked for asylum effects several years and later hothouse iwg. Mostly on adverts though we did work on the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy movie. I later went on to be sfx supervisor on a few horror films before ‘retiring’ to become a teacher. A few of my friends have been on Star Wars for the last few years and when I’m standing in a fug of tennagers farts and attitude I do question my life choices somewhat! I Teach DT so I have a workshop at my disposal for my creative endeavours. Are you still in the industry?
Now you see me...
