Here is something interesting for the lock lovers:

Hmmm what do you think RichardW? And others?

Re: BDM Safe Box by Bazar de Magia
Interesting that you should post that now. I've been thinking about a similar trick for quite some time now, except my idea is to use key cards (you know, the types with holes that was popular in hotels many years ago) instead of ordinary keys.
This kind of trick is of course closely related to Anverdi's key box, except not being electronic.
I don't know how the BDM Safe Box works, but it looks like the performer needs to be the one that inserts his (the last) key, at least judging from the video. That could suggest there is a move that needs to be done to make it open, which makes it less "hands off" than the Anverdi version (which operates by remote). In my opinion, it is better if a spectator opens the box with the last key, without the performer touching it, and I don't know if that is possible with the BDM Safe Box.

Re: BDM Safe Box by Bazar de Magia
I found a thread on this trick at the green site (which I haven't really been visiting for a long time), and I was partly wrong. The performer does not need to touch the box itself, but he must handle the last key. I will admit that I'm confused about that. Since the keys are examinable, what possible manipulation can be done to the key to make it the one that opens the box?
RichardW, your expert opinion would be welcome here.

Re: BDM Safe Box by Bazar de Magia
My simple thinking says: the key is not put in the whole way, one mm less

As usual these videos are not honest - spectator can operate the last key !?
But I don't have a real explanation either except for an extra movement
Overall, however, I am not very enthusiastic about such a Key trick ...
Re: BDM Safe Box by Bazar de Magia
Sounds plausible, but that means there's a chance that the spectators can in fact open the box if they happen to not insert the key all the way. And also, if the performer inserts the last key and lets the spectator do the turning, then the spectator might push the key all the way in as part of the turning, and thus the box will not open.Olaf S wrote: ↑Wed Dec 16, 2020 5:36 am

My version (if I end up making it), would work differently, and would allow the spectators to try all the key cards, including the final one that opens the box. I have also planned for having seven key cards, to make it seem even more impossible. Designing the lock mechanism to work like I want isn't trivial, so we'll see if this actually comes to fruition or not.

Re: BDM Safe Box by Bazar de Magia
Possibly, but I think Olaf's explanation is simpler. It does look like the performer needs to be the one inserting the final key, so I guess having a hidden m***et could be a workable method, but it is also more difficult to do (getting the m***et in position, and then ditching it to show empty/free hands). And since the trick is described as "no sleight of hand", I think it is simpler. And Olaf's explanation fits the bill perfectly. Occam's razor.

I would love to see your version as I like the key cards much better and your clever execution

Re: BDM Safe Box by Bazar de Magia
After reading some comments in the TMC, it occurred to me that the keys could be manipulated.
It is claimed that each of the 5 keys is able to open the lock. By doing some fine mechanical work
on the keys, there could something be changed on the key that would allow it to be opened ... ?

Re: BDM Safe Box by Bazar de Magia
I find it hard to imagine how that could be done without spectators noticing, but it can't be ruled out, I guess.Olaf S wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 6:43 pmAfter reading some comments in the TMC, it occurred to me that the keys could be manipulated.

I am at the moment intrigued by trick boxes, especially Jean Claude Constantin’s “Planet Box”
This one has a very interesting mechanism to open the box …

Quite passable this metal box but from my point of view overpriced
Bought it cheap second hand and thus still in the green range

This looks more like in a puzzle zoon instead of magic haha - love the look of it tho! Well, the Planet Box has the similarity with the BDM Box that you have to be able to open the box with the right handling, not with a key but by spinning the ‘planets’.magic11ryan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 3:25 amThis looks more like in a puzzle zoon instead of magic haha - love the look of it tho! I also think that magic lovers often also like these kind of brain teasers, see Chris Ramsay’s YouTube channel… He is a skilled magician AND a lover of trick boxes
